Rainstorm hits Norbekaw

Norbekaw (B/A), March 24, GNA- A severe rainstorm has hit Norbekaw in the Asunafo District of Brong Ahafo rendering 40 residents homeless. The incident caused extensive damage to 10 houses and property worth millions of cedis.

Madam Akua Pomaah, a storekeeper and one of the victims told Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Norbekaw that the storm was one of the worst in the community in recent years.

She said she lost three of her refrigerators and provisions in her shop were destroyed whilst she lost nearly three million cedis in cash. Another victim, Auntie Badu, a food seller also had her structure completely ripped off with massive damage to her cooking utensils. The displaced are putting up with friends and relatives and have been assured by the Asunafo District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the District Assembly of some relief items to help mitigate their trauma.

Mr. George Yaw Boakye, District Chief Executive and the District NADMO Coordinator, Alhaji Ishak Abubakar Bonsu, advised landlords to use durable building materials in constructing their houses to minimize such losses.
