Rainstorm causes havoc in Ahafo-Ano North District

Tepa (Ash), June 1, GNA – One person was injured and more than 554 people rendered homeless during a severe rainstorm that hit three communities in the Ahafo-Ano North District in Ashanti. The communities are Tepa, Mabang and Akwasiase where 36 houses had their roofs ripped off, 55 partly collapsed and nine others completely destroyed.

Opanin Kofi Poku, 55, a farmer at Akwasiase, who sustained injuries when a wall fell on him, was treated and discharged at the Akwasiase clinic.

Mr David Addai Amankwah, the District Chief Executive, accompanied by Mr Bismark Francis Osei, Presiding Member, and Mr Joseph Kankam, the District NADMO Co-ordinator, have visited the victims and expressed their sympathies.

The DCE observed that the rapid destruction of forest through illegal felling of trees had exposed the area to natural disasters such as windstorm. Mr Amankwah gave the assurance that the Assembly and NADMO would assist the victims in rehabilitation of their buildings.
