Public school teachers boycott independence celebration

Ejisu (Ash), March 6, GNA – Public school teachers, particularly those at the basic level, stayed away from the 54th Independence Anniversary parade in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality. This notwithstanding, the school children were there to fully participate in the event, held under the theme “Discipline and hard work, essential pre-requisite for Better Ghana.”

In all, 2,500 pupils and students, drawn from 45 public and private basic and second cycle institutions as well as some student cadet corps, took part in the parade.

Mr Frempong Boadu, the Municipal Coordinating Director, in an address read for the Ashanti Regional Minster, urged the pupils and students to cherish the values of integrity and self-discipline. This, he said, was necessary to help achieve both individual success and national progress.

Mr Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu-Juaben, appealed to teachers to exercise restraint as the government made efforts to rectify the anomalies in their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.
