Programme to rid Ejisu Zongo of mosquitoes instituted

Ejisu (Ash), Dec 8, GNA – A programme designed to rid Ejisu Zongo of mosquitoes to reduce the incidence of malaria in the community has been instituted for the area.

Eatwell Practical Rabbitry International (EPRI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), and the Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) instituted the programme.

The programme involves the spraying of all houses, de-silting of all gutters and spraying them together with all public toilets.

Mr K.A. Abu Seidu, Project Director of the EPRI, said this after the chiefs, unit committee members and residents of the Zongo community had spent three hours spraying over 400 houses at Ejisu Zongo on Sunday under the first phase of the programme.

Mr Seidu said apart from spraying the houses the programme would also embark on a sustained education campaign to create greater awareness amongst the residents as to the need to embrace personal hygienic practices and environmental cleanliness.

Alhaji Abdulai Mekano, chief of Ejisu Zongo, commended the EPRI and KITA for initiating the programme and appealed to all residents to participate in the programme.
