Prof. Kwesi Botchwey is not being fair to Terkper – Agarko

Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko has questioned the rationale behind the appointment of a leader of the Economic Management Team, which is in talks with the International Monitory Fund (IMF), instead of the Finance Minister.

“…why would the president do that?” He asked on NEAT FM.

To him, the longest serving Finance Minister in the history of Ghana, Prof. Kwesi Botchwey, has not been fair to Hon. Seth Terkper by taking up the job of leading Ghana’s delegation to discuss ways of overcoming the economic challenges with the IMF.

“…Why? Did he (Prof. Botchwey) not walk away from his job as Finance Minister due to what he described as interference? Was it not because he did not like the intrusion of Tsatsu Tsikata in his work? And now what is he doing to Terkper? Am not saying this because Terkper is my brother, but what is good for the goose is good for the gander,” Hon. Kyeremanteng said on NEAT100.9 FM.

He made the remarks in connection with what many believe is the sidelining of Hon. Terkper from the deliberations with the IMF attributed to the fact that President Mahama has lost confidence in him.

But Seth Terkper in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, stated that he has not been sidelined by the President adding that Ghana is meeting with the IMF as a team, therefore, it is unwarranted for people to misconstrue Botchwey’s position as the leader.

“I see this more as a team effort. It doesn’t mean I will be off the negotiation team. I still need my technical team in the discussion,” he said.
