Private varsities should benefit from GETfund

A former CEO of the Korle bu Teaching Hospital has said private universities must benefit from the Ghana Education Trust Fund.

According to Professor Frimpong Boateng, the contribution of private universities to the country’s development cannot be underrated, therefore, the need for the government to support them through the GETfund.

He made the suggestion at the fifth congregation of Garden City University College in Kumasi where the school’s first batch of nurses’ graduated.

“Governments can give private institutions support funds as interest bill on. Private institutions are not profit making, everything they make is put back into the infrastructure and human capital. I think that government should continue to exempt private schools from tax. In a country where financial allocation for research is just about 0.03%, they need all the money they can gather,” he said.

He also suggested that the training of physician assistants will mitigate the shortfall of doctor-patient ratio in the country.
