Press Centre burgled, cash stolen

Accra, July 16, GNA – The golden chain symbolizing the authority of office of the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GNA) was stolen from the safe at the Ghana International Press Centre at the weekend when the centre was burgled.

A statement signed by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), said an amount of 205 Ghana cedis (2,050,000 cedis) belonging to the Association and an unspecified amount of money belonging to two members of the executive was also stolen. It said the burglary was discovered on Saturday morning by the Treasurer, Mrs Yaa Oforiwa Asare-Peasah who went to the Centre to meet and handover a document to the GJA Organising Secretary, Mr Dave Agbenu. The statement said the Police Service has begun investigations into the incident following a formal report to the Osu Police as well as the Criminal Investigations Department.
