Accra, July 12, GNA – The Presidential Task Force on the recent floods in Accra and other parts of the country has identified some of the major causes of the floods and made recommendations for short, medium and long term solutions. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr John Tia Akologu, Minister of Information, said Commodore Steve Obimpeh (Rt), Chairman of the 11-member task force who presented the report, thanked President John Evans Atta Mills for the confidence reposed in them. Commodore Obimpeh said “the report identified some of the major causes of the floods and made a number of recommendations for short, medium and long term solutions”.
He expressed the hope that Government would act expeditiously on the report to ensure that the recommendations were implemented to avoid future floods. The Chief of Staff, Mr Henry Martey Newman, who received the report on behalf of President Mills, congratulated the task force for working hard to submit the report on time. He said the members had justified the confidence reposed in them and gave the assurance that Government would study the report and act on it without delay. “Government viewed the perennial floods seriously and would look for the resources to implement the recommendations of the task force which are far- reaching and address the root causes,” Mr Newman noted. It would be recalled that on June 24, this year, Government set up an 11- member task force to assess the damage done by the recent floods in various parts of the country and submit its report on July 9, for action.
