President names new ministers

Accra, Oct. 13, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills has nominated new ministers following the resignation of Dr George Sipa-Yankey, Minister of Health and Mr Amadu Seidu, Minister of State at the Presidency, over allegations of bribery in the Mabey and Johnson case.

A statement signed by Mr Koku Anyidoho, Head of Communications at the Presidency, said President Mills had nominated Dr Benjamin Kumbuor as Minister of Health-designate and Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo as Minister of State at the Presidency-designate. Dr Kumbuor is the substantive Deputy Minister of Health.

President Mills has also nominated Dr Nii Oakley Nii Quaye-Kuma has Deputy Minister of Health-designate

The statement said President Mills had forwarded his nominations to Parliament for consideration The Castle on Saturday announced that President Mills had accepted the resignations of Dr Sipa Yankey and Mr Seidu.

This followed lengthy closed door discussions held over two days with the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, Attorney-General and other close aides of the President, the statement said.

President Mills “has also decided to invite an independent body, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), to conduct investigations into those allegations of bribery against Ghanaian public officials in the said case”, it added. 13 Oct. 09
