President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has commissioned an 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital and praised the Ghana Police Service for progress in public safety, security and crime investigations.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on 13 October 2026, President Mahama said the new facility would strengthen healthcare provision for police personnel, their families and members of the general public.
He said the complex formed part of wider efforts to improve the welfare of officers who face significant physical and psychological pressures in the course of their duties. The president also underlined the importance of ensuring that officers injured during operations receive timely, high-quality medical treatment.
President Mahama called on the management and staff of the Ghana Police Hospital to uphold high standards of hygiene, patient safety and professional care.
He also asked the hospital to ensure that the new facility and its equipment were properly maintained so they could continue to serve patients effectively.
As part of the support for the hospital, the president announced the donation of two new ambulances. The vehicles are intended to improve emergency response and support the care and transfer of patients.
He further assured the Ghana Police Service that an additional armored vehicle would be provided and that hospital facilities would be expanded to improve healthcare provision.
Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno welcomed the completion of the ward complex, describing it as an important development for healthcare at the hospital.
Mr Yohuno said the expanded capacity would benefit police personnel, their families and the wider public. He added that it would help reduce the need to transfer patients to other healthcare facilities.
The Inspector-General also said the additional capacity would improve access to specialised care for patients treated at the Ghana Police Hospital.
He reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to maintaining the new complex and ensuring that it provides quality healthcare to all patients.
The facility is intended to support the hospital’s ability to care for officers who require treatment, while also strengthening the services available to their families and members of the general public.
