Samuel Asare Bediako, a student of Prempeh College in Kumasi in the Ashanti region, died instantly after falling from the third floor of the dormitory storey building along with a friend.
Tabiri Kofi Boateng, the friend of the deceased, suffered multiple fractures with other parts of his body severely damaged from the accident. He is responding to treatment.
The incident which occurred on Friday has left many students in shock. Some of the students who were witnesses to the incident said the deceased – Samuel, was sitting on the metal bars at the very top of the dormitory when his friend confronted him on a friendly dare.
The dare of threatening to push him over the top became a scuffle. The deceased slipped went over the top and just when he was about falling dragged Tabiri along.
Both of them fell on the concrete floor with Samuel suffering brain damage and dying on the spot. School authorities are yet to comment on the incident but some of the students who spoke on condition of anonymity said they are afraid to go up the Opoku Ware house where the incident happened.
