Pra River building community clinic through self-help

The chiefs and people of Pra River, a predominantly farming community in the Asante-Akim South District, have taken steps to improve access to healthcare through the building of a clinic.

Nana Baah Sarpong, the Akwamuhene, said at a fundraising durbar in aid of the facility, that the people are eager to see the project completed within months to end the hustle of sick people including children and women who travel long distances to seek medical care.

He noted that the clinic would serve the health needs of surrounding farming communities.

Mr De-graft Fokuo, District Chief Executive, lauded the people for the initiative as well as their self-help spirit.

He said it is refreshing that the people did not sit on the sidelines, steep in apathy, but decided to act to improve their situation.

The DCE said it is not possible for government to do everything and urged the communities to share the responsibility of helping to transform the socio-economic conditions of the population.

He gave the assurance that the assembly would stand with Pra River community every step of the way to make the project, a dream come true.

An amount of GH¢9,600.00 was mobilised alongside the donation of cement and other building materials at the durbar.

Work on the clinic started in March, last year, and has now reached the lintel level.
