Power Struggle in New Patriotic Party

The Nkawkaw Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is boiling in a power struggle among most of the contestants seeking positions in this Saturday’s constituency congress and election.

There have been accusations, counter accusations and name-calling among the contestants, which party insiders say could tear the party apart in the constituency.

At the moment, one of the three contestants for the chairmanship, Opanyain Yaw Boateng, has threatened to report a leading member of the party at the constituency, Mr. Benjamin Opoku Asante, popularly known as Wofa Attah, to the security agencies for allegedly threatening his life.

According to Opanyin Boateng, Wofa Attah sent somebody to ask him to step down to avoid being assaulted or ridiculed by the youth.

He accused some party members of selling their conscience for money and making vain promises and allowing themselves to be hoodwinked and used as pawns.

Opanyin Boateng said the NPP is a principled and a democratic party so no one can use his money and tricks to easily get his way.

He urged all party members to stand firm and vote according to their conscience.

When Wofa Attah was contacted on the issue he denied ever threatening Opanyin Boateng.

He said since he respected Opanyin Boateng as an opinion leader and since he (Boateng) is the family head of a number of prominent citizens in the country, including chiefs, queen mothers and political appointees, he does not want a situation where people will use political platforms to insult and ridicule him, hence his advice.

He gave the assurance that he has no evil intentions about Opanyin Boateng.
