Power Minister to appear before parliament over ‘dumsor’

Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor is expected to face parliament’s Government Assurances Committee over his promise to end the country’s power crisis.

Dr. Donkor promised in February this year that he will resign if he failed to solve the protracted power crisis by the end of 2015. He reiterated the promise on the floor of parliament on June 5, 2015.

With three weeks to the end of the year, chairman of the Assurance Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has told Class FM’s Ekow Annan that the committee will invite the Minister to appear before the parliamentary body on Wednesday December 23, 2015, to answer questions.

He said the Standing Orders and the Constitution mandate them as a committee to pursue ministers who give promises.

Mr Bedzrah added that the Committee will seek to find out from the Power Minister what measures he has put in place regarding load shedding in the country. The meeting with Mr Donker, he said, will be a public sitting.
