Poultry farmers to protect health of the people – Rev. Darko

Nsawam, Sept. 7, GNA – The Rev. Kwabena Darko, Chairman of the Ghana Poultry Development Board has said that members of the Ghana Poultry Farmers Association has the responsibility of protecting the health of the people by rearing and selling healthy chickens. He said for this reason it is essential for poultry farmers to join the Association in other to acquire skills in production of healthy fowls.

Rev. Darko gave the advice when addressing members of the Eastern Region branch of the Association at a workshop on the theme: “Bird Flu Incidence on Poultry Farms”, which was held on Friday, sponsored by the Poultry Development Board.

Mr. Emmanuel M. Sowah, President of the Akuapem South branch of the Association observed that a formidable and vibrant Association would attract financing from the banks and commended the Akuapem South District Assembly for giving financial and logistic support in the fight against Avian Flu. Mr. Sowah, who did not disclose the amount said it was channelled to the Association through the District Agricultural Development Unit of the Assembly. He appealed to the Assembly for its continued support and urged state institutions and individuals to patronize Ghanaian poultry birds without fear of contracting any disease.
