Porter fined three million cedis for causing harm

Kumasi, Jan. 19, GNA – An 18-year-old porter (kayayoo) has been fined three million cedis by a Kumasi Circuit court for pouring a bowl of hot water on her neighbour scalding her face and shoulder. Abibata Fuseini, who pleaded guilty to unlawfully causing harm, would in default serve 12 months imprisonment in hard labour. The court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmorosa, ordered that two million cedis out of the fine should be given to Zaratu Mohammed 48, the complainant.

Police Chief Inspector Janet Oseiwaah prosecuting told the court that both the accused and complainant were neighbours at Oforikrom in Kumasi.

She said on December 11, last year, Abibata damaged the complainant’s drying line but Abibata became offended when confronted. Police Chief Inspector Oseiwaah said in her anger the accused poured hot water on the complainant scalding her on the face and shoulders.

She said the complainant lodged a complaint at the Oforikrom police station where she was given a medical form to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment.

Police Chief Inspector Oseiwaah said Abibata was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
