Political Parties to ballot today

The electoral commission says all is set today’s special meeting of the Inter-Party advisory committee at which the political parties will ballot for positions on the ballot paper for the December general elections.

The decision to adopt the balloting system was taken at an IPAC meeting after evaluating the previous system of giving parties positions on the ballot paper. During previous elections, positions on the ballot paper were based purely on the order in which parties filed their nominations. The practice led to a situation where political parties lay siege at the commission in order to file their nominations and get the positions they want on the ballot paper. According to the deputy chairman of the commission in charger of operations, Mr. David Kanga, the commission is ready for the balloting today.

Nine parties- the Convention Peoples’ Party- CPP; Democratic Peoples’ party- DPP; Great Consolidated Peoples’ Party- GCPP; National Democratic Congress- NDC; New Patriotic Party- NPP; National Reform Party- NRP; Peoples’ National Convention- PNC; United Ghana Movement- UGM and the Egle Party are contesting the December general elections.
