Political parties granted permission to inspect ballot boxes in Police Armory

Representatives of the various political parties have been granted access by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to inspect the ballot boxes used in the Special Voting exercise on Thursday, December 1, 2016, and are kept in the Police Amory.

The access granted takes effect from Friday, December 2, to Wednesday, December 7, 2016 when the ballots of the Special Voting exercise are countered and declared.

Similarly, Returning Officers and agents of the political parties have been given the green light to inspect the biometric verification devices (BVDs) that were used in the Special Voting exercise on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

The exercise which will take place on Friday, December 2, 2016, is to enable these agents and the Returning Officers to reconfirm the number of persons who actually voted in the Special Voting exercise before the counters of the devices reset itself to zero on Saturday, December 3, 2016.

The move, according to the electoral management body, is “to guarantee the integrity of the ballots already cast.”

This was contained in a statement signed and issued, Thursday, by the Head of the EC, Eric Kofi Dzapkasu moments after the Commission’s engagement with the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service and an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
