Policeman appears before court for murder

Sunyani(B/A), May 02, GNA – Police Constable Patrick Asuah Anthony of Wenchi Police station in the Brong-Ahafo Region last Thursday appeared before the Sunyani Magistrate’s court ‘B’ charged with murdering one Noryime Sabadu a farmer to death at Atuna near Wenchi. His plea was not taken and remanded into prison custody to reappear on May 11.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel T Boison told the court presided over by Mr Albert Zoogah that on April 20 this year one Atta Sextus reported an assault case against the deceased at the Wenchi police station.

He said on April 24, at about 5:30 am the accused and another policeman armed with riffles accompanied the complainant to Atuna to arrest the deceased.

The prosecution said on reaching the deceased’s house the accused and his colleague entered the bedroom and found the deceased asleep. He said the accused woke the deceased up and informed him he (deceased) was under arrest and should follow them to the police station.

The prosecution said the deceased left the room and returned later with a cutlass under his bed and inflicted an injury on the forehead of the accused.

Police Chief Insp ector Boison said the accused gave a warning shot to frighten the deceased but a struggle ensued between them and in the process the riffle went off accidentally killing the deceased instantly. A report was made to the police and after investigations, the accused was charged with the offence.
