Police to ensure safety of Ghanaians during Christmas

Accra, Dec. 24, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Thursday pledged to ensure the safety of Ghanaians by initiating measures to beef up security during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

A statement signed by Chief Inspector Kwaku Dompreh of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Regional Police Command, said snap check points would be increased to cover all areas especially crime prone areas. “Vehicles compartment will be searched very thoroughly at these check points,” it said.

The statement said: “These measures are to ensure the safety of life and property during this year’s festivities when it is expected that criminals may want to take advantage of the celebration to commit crimes.”

It said the Police noted that those measures would in no doubt come with inconvenience and appealed to the public to bear with them.

The statement reminded the public that the ban on importation, use and sale of Christmas explosives popularly called “knockout” was still in force. “Anyone who will be caught selling, buying or using such knockout will be prosecuted,” the statement said.
