Police stopped a mini commercial van with registration number GW 7800-14 on the route from Bimbilla to Tamale. The vehicle was being driven by 46-year-old Alhassan Zeblim, who was suspected of carrying the consignment.
A search of the van led to the discovery of the parcels, which had been compressed and concealed in four jute sacks commonly known as “Ghana Must Go” bags.
According to the police, Mr Zeblim told investigators that the consignment was intended for Ibrahim Yussif, a 34-year-old tricycle rider in Tamale.
Ibrahim later went to an agreed location with his brother, 56-year-old Bawa Yussif. Mohammed Haruna, 32, who was subsequently identified as the owner of the consignment, was also arrested.
The four suspects, along with the seized items and a tricycle, have been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Units (DLEU) for further investigation.
The Northern Regional Police Command praised the officers involved for what it described as their swift response and integrity in refusing the alleged bribe.
It also urged personnel across the region to demonstrate similar conduct.
