Police, Prison officers clash over defilement case

Police in Koforidua in the Eastern region have clashed with Prison officers there attempting to influence a defilement case involving one of their colleagues.

Randy Obeng Wiafe, popularly known as Abaah, was arrested by the Eastern Regional Police for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

The victim is a house help with a female prison officer the suspect is dating. He has been remanded into custody at the Akuse Prisons, but Starr news Eastern Regional correspondent Kojo Ansah reports his colleagues are pushing to get the case dropped.

But Deputy PRO for the Eastern Regional Police Command Sergeant Gideon Boateng told Starr News the efforts of the prison officers will be foiled.

“The DOVVSU officers here are very experienced people and they are on top of the matter. There are cases that cannot be settled out of court and as we speak, the suspect is on remand so the case will take its natural course,” he stated.
