Police personnel advised to be neutral during Election 2004

Nyinahin (Ash), July 23, GNA – The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in-charge of the Atwima-Mponua District, Mr Charles Adu, has once again cautioned police personnel to be neutral in the discharge of their duties now, during and after the December polls. He said they must approach all their assigned political duties with professionalism so as to maintain the good image of the Police Service.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nyinahin on measures being taken by his outfit in the constituency as the presidential and parliamentary elections draw near, ASP Adu advised police officers not to align themselves to political parties but remain neutral in the discharge of their duties.

He asked them not to turn themselves into debt collectors since the courts were there to deal with such cases.

ASP Adu said the police and the forest Services Division would soon form a task force to check illegal chainsaw activities in the area and called on chiefs, opinion leaders and assembly members in the area to co-operate with the task force when it was formed to enable it to achieve the purpose for which it was formed.

He said a number of neighbourhood watch committees had been formed in some communities to assist the police to clamp down on criminal activities in the area.
