Police parade 57 suspected criminals in Accra

Accra, Nov. 25 GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Friday organised a public identification parade for 57 suspects, who were arrested in separate operations for various crimes within the Metropolis.

They included suspected armed robbers, car snatchers, cell phone snatchers, drug peddlers and fraudsters.

Assistant Superintendent Police Mr John Habada, who is the Deputy Regional Crime Officer, said the suspects who are between the ages of 17 years and 60 years were picked up at various hideouts after persistence outcry of people in those areas.

He said Police swooped on areas like Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Neoplan Station, Achimota Overhead Bridge and Chorkor, which had been identified as the hiding places for these criminals.

He appealed to members of the public to volunteer information to the Police to enable them to arrest and flush out criminals. Two robbery victims identified Seshie Mawuli, 20, and Oko Botwey, 17, as those who snatched their car and mobile phone, respectively, from them on different occasions.

Mawuli, who is a member of a five-member gang, snatched a KIA Sephia Saloon car with registration number GW 3452 W at Dansoman last month.

The victim was attacked with a cutlass and injured. The same car was used in another robbery in which Raymond Archer, Managing Editor of the Enquirer Newspaper, was also assaulted with a machete. Oko Botwey was identified as a mobile phone snatcher, who stole three phones from his victim around Dansoman on the night of November 14, 2005 while he was returning home.

The victim was also attacked with a cutlass and he sustained several injuries on the arm and head.
