Police Chief incurs wrath of Upper East journalists

The Upper East Regional Police Commander DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedjo, has incurred the anger of journalists in the region who have vowed to blacklist all police related events until he renders a public apology for an alleged snub.

Journalists who went to the police chief demanding answers as to measures he had put in place to curb the escalating tension in Bogatanga following chieftaincy clashes that led to two deaths and several injuries were disappointed with his unruly response.

DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedjo is said to have virtually ignored the journalists on grounds that his activities are not run in the media and therefore saw no reason to speak with them.

“I don’t do my policing in the media. I have put all the necessary security measures in place and that is what is important to me”, he was quoted as telling the members of the inky fraternity.

When pestered to explain what actually he meant by that, he appeared to have become infuriated and retorted “I said policing is not about talking in the media but about doing the right thing and I have done so.”

Members of the local chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have since resolved to give his administration a total media blackout since he appears to be uncooperative with the media unlike his predecessor DCOP Simon Afeku who operated an open door policy.

Attempts by other subordinate cops to calm the nerves of the livid journalists in the region has yielded no results as they feel verbally abused and denigrated by his comments.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up around the two palaces located around Atulbabisi a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality to avert a recurrence of Saturday’s clashes with no arrest made so far.
