Police Boss Laments Lack of Logistics to Fight Crime

The divisional Police Commander of Akropong Akuapem, Chief Supt. Robert Adenya, has said lack of accommodation and unavailability of telephone facilities are straining efforts by the police/military patrol teams to combat crime.

He said the joint patrol team, which is currently manning other districts, namely Akumpem South, Yilo Krobo, Manya Krobo, Asuogyaman, in addition to Akuapem North district, finds it difficult to establish contact due to the unavailability of telephone facilities.

The divisional commander expressed these concerns at the inauguration of the Akuapem North Security Ensuring Fund (ANSEF) at Akropong last week.

The fund is to complement the efforts of the District Assembly, which has already sunk an amount of ?15 million into ensuring the welfare and sustainability of the patrol teams.

Continuing, Chief Inspector Adenya appealed to landlords to hire out their rooms to the personnel and called on the private sector to assist in the area of communication as it is an effective tool in combating crime.

“We are determined to push back the criminals, but to continue to be effective we must be well equipped,” he underscored.

Inaugurating the fund, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Dr. Eugenia Danquah Quist, disclosed that the assembly had contributed ?20 million to the fund and that a nine-member board of trustees would soon be constituted to manage the fund.

A target amount of over ?1 billion is expected to be generated through contributions from various groups and organizations as well as through foreign aid.
