Kasoa, June 27, GNA – The Police at Kasoa have arrested Kobina Amissah, electrician, who allegedly posed as a worker of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and succeeded in defrauding a hairdresser of 1.3 million cedis over the weekend.
According to Mr Charles Adalong, Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of Kasoa District, the 27-year-old electrician approached the hairdresser, Miss Selina Amoah, promising that he could easily assist in securing a meter for her saloon.
Initially, Selina rejected the offer telling Amissah that she had already applied for the meter and her application was being processed but he insisted that it was a waste of time and that she could rely on him.
Mr Adalong said Amissah managed to persuade Selina to release the amount and later proceeded to the Kasoa branch of the ECG to verify whether Amissah was an employee but it came out that he was not known. Mr Adalong said unluckily for Amissah he was found loitering around the company’s premises and with the assistance of some residents he was arrested, adding that police investigations were on course.
He said Ghanaians should demand identity cards from persons who presented themselves to them as representatives of the various utility service providers.
