Police appeals for information on Sota violence

The Ashaiman Divisional Police Command has appealed to residents of Sota, a farming community near Dodowa, to volunteer information to the Police on the perpetrators of the May 21, shooting incident in the village.

The incident led to the death of Winston Mawuko Gadagbui, a 35-year-old Surveyor, and one Ishmael Adika, who died later at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on June 1.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the event, Chief Superintendent of Police David Eklu, said the Ashaiman Divisional Police Criminal Investigation Department had taken over investigations into the matter from the Dodowa Police due to the severe nature of the crime.

He said so far, 11 witnesses have given statements to the Police and that the investigation would enable the Police to arrest the perpetrators to face the full rigours of the law.

Chief Superintendent Eklu said, at about 1430 hours on that fateful day, the Dodowa District Police received information that a group of unidentified gunmen was engaged in a shooting incident at Sota, where Shai and Ningo ethnic groups are said to be litigating over a parcel of land lying between Abonya and Sota.

He said the Police rushed to the scene and found three men with gunshot wounds

He said three others emerged from a nearby bush and told the Police that they were part of a group from a village called Wedokum, who had come to the area with a surveyor from Tema to conduct a field survey for the Okrode family of Dodowa.

Chief Superintendent Eklu said the Police rushed the injured persons to the Dodowa Hospital while the body of Gadagbui was deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra.

Mr William Agbolosu, Head of the Gadagbui-Agbolosu-Voryee family, appealed to the Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander to act expeditiously on the matter in order to bring the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of their relative to book.
