Koforidua, May 5, GNA – One hundred and thirty-six students of the Pope John Secondary School (POJOSS) at Effiduase-Koforidua, have been given eight-week suspension for gross indiscipline in the school. The measure, which was taken by the school’s disciplinary committee, affected four first year students, 63-second year and 69 final year students.
According to the headmaster of the school, Mr Paul Ofori-Atta, the decision of suspension was to “further the cause of discipline in the school” following a roll-call conducted in the school immediately after a recent invasion of the Ghana Secondary School (GHANASS) by some students of the school.
He explained that those who were absent during the roll-call were put before the school’s disciplinary committee and upon interrogation, it was discovered that most of them were in the school but not “at the right places at that time”, saying those who were found out to have gone to the GHANASS had been suspended indefinitely.
Mr Ofori-Atta said the authorities were still reviewing the situation and interacting with all stakeholders.
It would be recalled that in the night of April 6, this year, the Regional Police Command had an “SOS” call from the GHANASS authorities that students suspected to be from the POJOSS had invaded their campus and damaged the school’s security lights.
A team of policemen were then dispatched to the scene, but on reaching there, they were told that the students had left a few minutes earlier, so they headed towards the POJOSS campus in a bid to arrest the students involved.
On reaching the school’s junction, the police came upon a group of students but upon sighting the police car, they scattered but they were pursued and six of them were arrested.
Of the six students, two of them were later found to have come from another school and all were released the next day because the police had no evidence to incriminate them with the offence.
