Pit caves in killing miner

Akwatia, July 12, GNA – Cudjoe Asamoah, a 35-year-old small-scale miner met his untimely death on Saturday when a pit in which he was mining diamonds at Kintinkintin, near Akwatia, caved in on him. According to the police at Akwatia, Asamoah and some colleagues were digging for diamonds at a concession released by the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds Limited when the incident occurred. The Police source said Asamoah’s colleagues managed to retrieve the body but abandoned it.

The Police are therefore looking for them to help in their investigations.

A farmer working in the area discovered Asamoah’s body and informed the police.

The body had been deposited at the St. Dominic’s Hospital, Akwatia, for autopsy.
