Physically challenged demand share of common fund

Accra July 4, GNA – The Ghana Society for the Physically Challenged in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday called on the government to expedite all processes to make their share of the 2006 common fund available to them.

A statement signed jointly by Mr Louis Millers, Chairman of the Society and Fred Quainoo, Secretary said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) had delayed in paying the money to them although their colleagues in other districts had received their share.

“We find the excuses given by the budget department of AMA for not releasing the funds to us as unacceptable. Wherever our share is, we shall make appeals to the powers that be and invoke the necessary legal instruments to get it released to us, for we are suffering”. The Society said it would not hesitate to make public the state of affairs concerning the application of their share since this was the first time they were accessing the fund which was instituted two years ago.

It said it would not want to resort to the threat of press conferences and demonstrations as it was in the case of accessing the micro-credit. 4 July 07
