Photo-taking exercise in Greater Accra extended

Accra, June 21, GNA – The photo-taking aspect of the Voter Registration Exercise in the Greater Accra Region has been extended for a day and would now end on Friday June 25.

A statement from the Electoral Commission signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Mr Henry W Okyne in Accra on Monday said the exercise, which should have ended on Thursday June 24 had been extended due to the shortage of films in some registration centres over the weekend. It said the shortage was temporary, adding that, it was the result of the unanticipated high percentage of films spoiled by the camera operators.

The Commission said it had taken delivery of a large quantity of films and expressed the hope that by mid-day on Tuesday June 22, all centres would have been supplied with the full complement of films for the exercise.

The statement said it was unacceptable for some photo-taking centres to ask prospective voters to bring along their own black and white pictures for processing and advised the electorate to desist from the practice.

It called on temporary field staff of the Commission to wait patiently at their centres for the replenishment and expressed regrets for the inconvenience the shortage might have caused.
