Hamile (UW), April 5, GNA – The people of Hamile a border town in the Jirapa/Lambussie District of the Upper West Region have appealed to telecommunication networks in the country particularly cellphone operators to consider extending their services to the area.
They explained that apart from the fact that such facilities could link them to other parts of the country, it could also help in boosting commercial activities with neighbouring Burkina Faso. Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister made the appeal when he visited the town to find out some of the problems they were facing.
They contended that, Hamile, as a border town could not blossom into an active business centre if basic facilities such as telephone facilities were lacking.
They pleaded with the Regional Minister to serve as their intermediary to encourage telecommunication companies into the area. Mr Dery, in reaction, said information, communication, water shelter and food were basic facilities that were necessary for any developing area. He therefore, promised to ensure that telephone facilities were sent to the area to facilitate communication. Mr Dery said the government would continue to assist every community in the country, irrespective of their ethnic or party affiliation and urged them not to create any confusion based on those lines. “It is useless fighting on political party issues instead of coming together as brothers and sister to fight for the development of your area.”
The Regional Minister earlier inspected a water-pumping transformer that was installed in the town based on the request of the people made to the Regional Minister.
“You are all Ghanaians and of course deserve to enjoy all the rights and privileges of the state, but remember that all these go with responsibilities”. Although they have some Ghana Telecom phone boots they complained that they spoil frequently without immediate repairs.
