Pay our salary arrears – Retired Professor

Professor Kwasi Nsiah-Gyabaah, a retiree and former Rector of Sunyani Polytechnic, has appealed to Government to pay the salary arrears of all retired Polytechnic Rectors.

He said the arrears had affected their monthly retirement allowances as the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) continues to pay them based on a structured system.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza, Professor Nsiah-Gyabaah, said: “the situation is causing embarrassment to many in their retirement and that Government should consider our plight and work out the arrears due us.”

Professor Nsiah-Gyabaah also appealed to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to show concern to the plight of pensioners and ensure that there were no delays in the implementation of any policy in connection with their welfare.

He said a recent rainstorm also destroyed boys dormitory of the Busunya Senior High School and used the opportunity to remind the Nkoranza North District Assembly of their duty to help rehabilitate the school.

He noted that officials from the District Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Assembly had made several promises to rehabilitate the affected structure, but this has not materialised.

Professor Nsiah-Gyabaah urged the Board of Governors and the Parents Teacher Association of the school to negotiate with the Assembly and reach an agreement on how to resolve the issue.
