Patrols begin in Ketu District to curb crime

Aflao, May 28, GNA – Security patrols in parts of the Ketu District, particularly in Aflao and Denu to curb rising crime in the area has started, a police source at Aflao has told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said the re-emergence of armed robbery cases in the area, with the attack and looting of two fuel stations and some individuals recently had created anxiety among security personnel and residents. The source said they were working hard to identify and apprehend perpetrators of recent robberies at the Shell and Glory Oil fuel stations at Denu and Aflao respectively.

“Areas around the borders and the bus terminals where criminals waylay travellers in the night, fuel stations and the highways are some of the areas of concern to us,” the source said. The source advised travellers and traders to avoid alleys and streets in the night, adding that it was not safe for travellers to leave their places of lodging at dawn.

“Travellers should secure their cell phones and other valuables while crossing the border and should also be wary of people offering them help,” the source further counselled.

Until the past three months major crimes had abated in the area, following the arrest in October last year of some criminals believed to be behind some of the robberies that had hit the District at the time.
