Patients Protection Council best for Ghanaians – NHIA

The National Health Insurance Authority has defended its proposal for better protection for Ghanaian patients.

The authority wants a patient protection council established to ensure that Ghanaians access improved healthcare.

This is part of recommendations the technical review committee of the NHIA will be putting before cabinet.

Despite criticisms from some health analysts on the recommendations from the technical committee, chairman of the committee Dr. Chris Atim said the move is in the best interest of Ghanaians.

“Having this kind of council is a better approach which will be able to establish the mechanisms to be able to address problems that are specific to members of the scheme and therefore improve their bargaining power within the system of the NHIA,” he explained.
