Passenger dies in a vehicle

Koforidua, Feb 15, GNA – The decision of a driver to drop a stranded passenger on his vehicle at Koforidua Regional Police Headquarters has rather landed him in police custody because the man was found dead on arrival at the police station. Briefing the GNA the Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Of Police Felix Asare-Darko, said on Feb 12 the passenger, believed to be travelling from Nigeria, boarded the taxi in Accra to Koforidua around midnight.

He said the driver charged the man 40 Ghana cedis and he paid. Mr Asare-Darko said the man, believed to be in the late forties, directed the driver to send him to Abease, an area within Koforidua, but after roaming the place, the man failed to locate his house. The driver became alarmed and decided to drop the man at the Regional Police Headquarters so that he could go back to Accra while the man found his way home.

When they reached the police station the driver alighted and asked the man to get down so that the police could assist him early in the morning to locate his house. The man did not respond after several calls and the police detected that he was dead. The dead body has been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy while the driver has been placed in custody to assist in investigations.
