Parliamentary Road Committee inspects roads

Seikwa (B/A), Oct. 11, GNA – Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport has inspected on-going projects and existing roads in Brong Ahafo and urged the contractors to ensure quality work and early completion.

The Committee led by its Chairman, Mr. Samuel Obodai, spent three days to inspect the roads, which included the Sunyani-Odumase-Seikwa-Berekum roads.

Mr. Kwabena Bretuo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Maintenance Engineer, Feeder Roads, told the Committee that about 75 per cent of work had been completed on Seikwa town roads.

He said the 4.9 km project was receiving financial support from the HIPC fund and 3.1 billion cedis had already been sunk into the first phase of the project.

At Dormaa-Ahenkro, Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah (rtd), District Chief Executive for Dormaa, said the Berekum-Dormaa trunk road had been awarded on contract for re-sealing to facilitate the transportation of goods and services to and from the area. The Parliamentary team had earlier inspected the Nkoranza-Ejura-Atebubu-Kwame Danso road project.

Mr. Dan Armah, Project Manager of Kai Ventures, the construction firm undertaking work on 10 kilometres of the 30-kilometre Atebubu-Kwame Danso road project said the company would be awarded the contract to work on the remaining stretch if it performed well. The Committee is expected to end its tour of the region after inspecting the Sunyani-Ntotroso-Acherensua – Goaso, Goaso-Gambia No. 2-Kyeremanso-Bediako-Kasapin and Goaso-Bibiani-Nyinahin roads. 11 0ct. 06
