Parliament mourns over Salia

Accra, Feb. 18, GNA – Parliament on Wednesday observed a minute’s silence in honour of the memory of Mr. Edward Salia, NDC Member of Parliament for Jirapa, who passed away a few days ago after a short illness. Mr. Salia was once a Minister of State under Rawlings’ administration and served in the Communications, Roads and Transport Ministry.

Meanwhile, Parliament had to reschedule the debate for the approval or rejection of more ministerial nominees to Friday. Although, the Order Paper had advertised the debate for Wednesday, the 5th Report of the Appointments Committee containing recommendations and details on the nominees had not been laid before the House. Mr. Alban Bagbin, Majority Leader, proposed that the debate be shifted to this Friday and moved for the adjournment of proceedings. The House, meanwhile, is expected to host President Evans John Atta Mills, who would deliver the State of the Nation address on Thursday.
