Mr Isaac B. Wilson of the National Commission on Civic Education in the Akwapim South Municipality, says moral training of children is fundamentally the responsibility of parents.
He said the role should not be relinquished to schools, otherwise, children would fall victims to child delinquency and other related vices.
Mr Wilson was speaking to Ghana News Agency at Nsawam in the Eastern Region, on how to support the youth who are morally upright.
He said it is the duty of parents to set the pace for the general training of their children before teachers come in to help enhance their virtues.
Mr Wilson therefore, asked parents to show commitment to their children’s education since, as stakeholders they have to help to redeem the falling standard of education in their communities.
He said efforts to provide quality education would fail, if teachers are not competent and hardworking.
Mr Wilson noted: “Education must equip a person to effectively participate in one’s community and also contribute to the development process.”
He urged the business community and churches to help provide skill training to people in the deprived areas, instead of seeking only their interests.
