Paramount chiefs call for peace

Manya Krobo, Sept. 8, GNA – Two paramouncies have called for the maintenance of law and order as essential ingredients of events leading to and during the December polls. Nene Sackitey II, Kornor of Manya Krobo and Oseadeyo Nana Addo Dankwa III, Omanhene of Akwapim underlined the essence of peace in Ghana’s development that will make the country shine the more in Africa as a beacon of democratic practices.

They were speaking to Mr John Mahama, running mate of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), when he called at their palaces as part of a 10 day campaign tour in the Eastern Region.

At Akropong, Krontihene Osahene Osei Kwasi Agyeman said Mr Mahama represented modernisation, decency and a God fearing person. Osahene Agyeman said the people of Akwapim would be following and watching Mr Mahama keenly on the campaign tour. At Odumase Krobo, Nene Sackitey said he admired the qualities of Mr Mahama and that he should be steadfat and listen to advice. He said the world was watching Ghana critically in its democratic practices and it would score another plus in a peaceful and successful election.

Mr Mahama said the NDC would win the election and that was the more reason why he and Professor Mills would not support any confusion or violence. He said the NDC would always go for fair play and that was the reason why they were drawing the attention of the Electoral Commission to a credible register that the loser or winner would not complain about.
