PAC slams BoG governor Wampah over snub

Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has strongly chided the Bank of Ghana after the failure of the governor to show up at the committee forced it to postpone sittings to probe adverse findings against the Bank.

Governor Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah was expected to appear with his deputies to explain adverse findings against the Central bank of Ghana as captured in 2011-2013 audit report.

Members of the Public Accounts Committee waited for over an hour but the governor failed to show up.

Instead, two officials of the Bank came, claiming they had no idea of the charges against the Bank.

Members of the Committee who were livid at the situation condemned the governor for his failure to respect the committee.

The situation also prompted Ranking member of the Committee Ibrahim Dey Abubakari to announce that Parliament would not allow the Bank of Ghana to take the house for granted.

He added that the Central Bank needs to be punished for failing to take the house serious.

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Kwaku Agyeman-Manu had no choice but to adjourn the committee sitting.
