Over 110 unauthorized structure demolished in Winneba

Winneba, Nov. 2, GNA – Personnel from the Winneba police and the Prison Service have destroyed over 100 signboards, bills boards and other structures erected at road junctions. The Winneba District Police Commander, Assistant superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye, told the GNA that the structures were obstructing the views of motorists and pedestrians. “These advertisement boards belonging to hairdressers, fitters, seamstress, companies, institutions and individuals obstruct the views of motorists and pedestrians, especially school children and children on errand.”

He said the structures obstructed motorists attempting to join the main road from minor roads and this might have contributed to major accidents.

Mr Quaye said the exercise was part of efforts by the police to reduce accidents in the town and appealed the people to cooperate with them to ensure its success. He said the exercise would be extended to Senya Beraku, Gomoa Dominase, Gomoa Fetteh and areas on the Accra/Cape Coast road within the Winneba Police District Command.

Mr Quaye appealed to owners of structures who wish to re-erect them to contact the Public Works Department (PWD), Highway Authority and the district assembly for direction and documentation. He said hawkers at Winneba Junction who have been chasing vehicles with their items should stop and use the place given them.
