Out-going Cuban Ambassador bids farewell

Accra, Oct. 2, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Monday praised the out-going Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Professor Lucas Domingo Hernandez Polledo, for his distinguished service that has helped to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

“You took to the surroundings so naturally and we enjoyed working with you”, he said, when the Ambassador called on him at the Castle, Osu, to bid him farewell.

Professor Polledo is leaving after a three-year duty tour of Ghana. President Kufuor said, “I am happy that during your term I had the opportunity to visit your country. You have a great country, which shows a lot of promise. I have great memories of Cuba.”

President Kufuor was in that country last month to attend a Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

He told Professor Polledo that the conference afforded him the opportunity to meet and discuss bilateral relations with the Cuban political leadership.

President Kufuor said Cuban doctors serving in Ghana and Ghanaian students undertaking research into malaria were some of the key issues that were discussed.

Professor Polledo thanked President Kufuor for the support and co-operation during his term.

He noted that the period was marked by significant improvement in the bilateral relations between Ghana and Cuba.
