Our legal team will go after Ibrahim – GRA

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is in the process of retrieving GHS10million that two companies – MBG Limited and Holman Brothers – belonging to Ibrahim Mahama, owed the state as duties in connection with some heavy duty equipment he cleared at the Tema port in 2015, Robert Mensah, Assistant Commissioner for Communications at the GRA, has said.

According to him, after retrieving the money from the two companies, the legal department of the GRA will then come in to deal with other matters relating to the case.

The two companies belonging to the brother of former President John Mahama have been asked by the GRA to pay the debt owed the state within two weeks.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, was on Tuesday April 18 invited by EOCO and interrogated for hours over accusations of financial malfeasance.

Following the meetings, he was ordered to pay about GHS12 million to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) by May 8, 2017.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday April 25, Mr Mensah said: “We will go in for our revenue first. After that the legal department will take care of other things.”

When asked to give a definite response as to whether the GRA would prosecute Mr Mahama in connection with the matter, he said: “When we get to that level you will hear from us. It is not within my remit to give a definite answer.”
