Otumfuo Osei Tutu in Libya

Tripoli, Sept. 1, GNA – The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has arrived in Tripoli, Libya to begin a 10-day goodwill and cultural visit to Libya at the invitation of the Libyan Leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

The visit coincides with activities marking the 37th anniversary of the launching of Libya’s Revolution, which falls on Friday, September 1 2006. The Revolution ushered in the Jamahiriyah system, which is governance through the People’s Congresses and the People’s Committees and not political parties.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was met on arrival by Mr Nisbah Shawish, Secretary of the Tripoli Municipality and Ghana’s Ambassador to Libya, Mr Kodjo Wadee and a large number of Ghanaians living in Tripoli.

The Asantehene would on Monday witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and AL-FATAH University on effective areas of collaboration. He would later hold discussion with Libyan Businessmen Council on investment opportunities in Ghana

The Asantehene would also be a guest of the Libyan Leader at a function to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the declaration of the African Union scheduled to take place in Sirte on September 9, 2006. Otumfuo Osei Tutu, who is expected to return to Ghana on Sunday September 10, would also hold a meeting with Libya’s Minister of Culture to discuss the holding of a conference of African Traditional Leaders
