Otumfuo Foundation promotes ICT education

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation has embarked on vigorous promotion of information and communication technology (ICT) education in deprived basic schools.

This is being done under the Foundation’s “mobile learning project,” with a goal of assisting to raise academic standards.

Mrs Habiba Nyarko Agyemang, Administrator, said the Foundation was determined to help children in the rural communities to have access to ICT facilities and bridge the gap between them and their counterparts in the cities and urban areas.

It had already started with two schools in the Bekwai Municipality – Ntinanko M/A Junior High School (JHS) and Ntinanko R/C Primary School.

Speaking at one of the free ICT teaching sessions held for students of the Ntinanko JHS, she encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to avoid being left behind by globalization.

The students are taught basic computer skills and assisted to develop interest in reading in makeshift libraries erected by the Foundation.

Mrs Agyemang said education was pivotal to the progress of every society and that was why it should be given special attention and support.

The Foundation has been operating in four thematic areas – Education, Culture and Heritage, Health, Water and Sanitation.

She said there could be no doubt that improvement in those sectors would transform the lives of the people.

Mr Kwadwo Adomako, Managing Director of Adomako Phones, sponsors of the project, urged all to work together to provide schools with the relevant leaning and teaching materials to enhance performance.

Mr Joseph Boakye, Head Teacher of Ntinanko JHS, described the intervention as a big relief.
