Kumasi, April 27, GNA – The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) on Monday organised a mini durbar at the Manhyia Palace to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the enthronement of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as the Asantehene.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu was crowned on April 26, 1999 as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool after the death of his brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
The durbar was preceded by customary rites at Breman, the ancestral home of the occupants of the Golden Stool as demanded by the customs and traditions of the stool.
The Asantehene, thereafter, rode in a palanquin from Mbrom to Bogyawe, where the durbar was held.
The large retinue of chiefs, linguists and other palace servants who accompanied Otumfuo Osei Tutu, created traffic jam on the streets where he passed to a temporarily halt.
The sounds of “Fontomfrom”, “Atenteben”, “Ntahara” and the singing of dirges by the women attracted huge crowds of residents who thronged the streets to cheer and congratulate the Asantehene on his fifth anniversary.
The Asantehene, who later sat in state briefly to receive compliments from his chiefs and other guests, also went round to greet the chiefs, guests and other spectators who had converged at the durbar grounds.
There was traditional music and dancing by four different cultural troupes at the durbar.
