OTEC presents items to Juaso police victims

Kumasi (Greater Accra), 9 Feb. ’99 –

The management of OTEC, a Kumasi- based FM Station, today presented personal effects worth about one million cedis and 150,000 cedis cash to five police personnel whose properties were destroyed by fire during the January three riots at Juaso-Ashanti. They included one full piece cloth, five assorted half-pieces, trousers, shirts, hand-bag, shoes, underwear, plates and cups. Mr Yamoah Frimpong, News Editor of the station, presenting the items, said it was the result of an appeal made on their airwaves from listeners to assist the victims. He hoped other institutions would help to rehabilitate the affected police personnel to continue with their duties to protect life and property. Mr Frimpong commended the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Police Service for the swift response to maintain peace, law and order at Juaso-Ashanti. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Samuel A. K. Berekorang, Ashanti Central Division Commander, who received the items on behalf of the affected police personnel thanked the donors for their assistance to help rehabilitate them. He hoped their action would encourage other individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the affected personnel.
