Osei-Wusu apologises to Justice Atuguba over retirement date goof

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of Parliament Appointments Committee, Mr Joseph Osei-Wusu has apologized unreservedly for misinforming the public that acting Chief Justice, William Atuguba was due for retirement July 2017.

At a news conference on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, Mr. Osei-Wusu announced the retirement of Justice William Atuguba.

However the information turned out to be false because the Supreme Court judge, Justice William Atuguba is due for retirement July 2018.

Speaking Friday during the vetting of the Chief Justice nominee, Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo, Mr. Osei-Wusu said “on Tuesday I held a press conference and said Justice William Atuguba was retiring July this year. I have been corrected that actually his retirement is July next year.”

“It is not few weeks as I put it out. I apologize unreservedly for any discomfort that I have caused Mr. Justice Atuguba,” he admitted.

Justice William Atuguba is among host of Supreme Court judges who graced the vetting process of Chief Justice Nominee, Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo.
